Hi Derek, there is no use for adf_publish branch. The reason why you see it in my screenshots, is that I created the branch by accident. But it does not harm/influence the pipelines (that is, when a developer hits the publish button, well, then only a new branch is created, but nothing will happen after it and the branch can just be deleted)
